A Highly Efficient, Two Stage Cooling System
The XL20i is Trane's most efficient air conditioner/heat pump. It is the only residential unit containing two compressors. The two compressor system uses less energy while providing more comfort.
The low speed compressor is used on mild days allowing the unit to run longer and thus pulling more humidity out of the air. most of the energy is used when a unit comes on, so if a unit is going off and on frequently it uses more energy. The XL20i can remove up to 3 times a day more moisture than a single speed system.
The higher speed compressor is used to provide comfort on those extremely hot days (above 95 degrees). The tonnage on your house is calculated on a 95 degree day, making a single speed unit oversized most of the time. This decreases the amount of humidity removed from the air

A two stage heater provides more even temperature and is more comfortable because...
- It prevents short cycling which causes it to feel too hot when the heat is on and cold before the heat comes on again.
- It stays on longer but uses less energy to do so. Most of the energy is used when it comes on, so if the unit is going on and off it uses more energy.
- It prevents that initial blast of cold air.

An Airtight, Insulated Duct System
The majority of old duct systems were installed using duct tape which deteriorates quickly leaving many leaks.
Many duct systems are not installed correctly to begin with.
In a properly installed duct system; duct is installed with 2 inch insulation, all duct connections are sealed with mastic tape, and duct is sized correctly to ensure proper air flow.

A Digital Programmable Comfort Control
Adjusts the programmed temperature to a lower setting during heating and a warmer setting during cooling to help reduce energy costs.
